Right Here
“Have you ever wondered where God is at in a world that is constantly moving?” This was a question asked of me by someone in a recent conversation. It got me thinking of how the movement of life that can go so quickly can cause us to miss the subtly of God - even though in a paradoxical way He isn’t subtle. A couple mornings later I sat and began to just write a bit of a reflection from that question posed, seeing how I too got caught up in the constant movement, needing a necessary time to slow down. Perhaps today, wherever you find yourself at, you can take a needed pause and ask that same question, “where are you?” And I know without a doubt He will meet you in that place, He will reveal, show, or speak to you.
The sun rises and as I look out my window I see the faint orange glow ascend over the horizon. The freshly fallen snow turning a hue of pink as color is strewn across it. I can begin to hear cars along the road as people travel to work. The house quiet though, the slight hum of the heater running, and the ever faint bird chirping in the background.
I sit in my usual chair gazing at the scene before me. Realizing that I could remain here, yet, the day begins to beckon me. I pause though because I don’t want to rush past this moment, for the rest of the day will be filled with moments that I wish I could catch again.
Closing my eyes, taking in a couple deep breaths I open them again. There I can see. I can see the gleaming sunrise begin to warm the cold scene. There I can see the colors change and the sky turn from a dark blue to the bright blue we are use to.
There I can see that in a world that is rushed to the next thing, pausing here is needed, in fact it’s necessary. I think then of those elsewhere in the world, and I ask the Lord “where are you?”
I hear a response, I am in the glistening snow, the rays of sunshine that warm you, I am in the song of the birds as they awaken, I am in your very breath as you inhale and exhale. Beloved I am right here.
Right here in the subtle moments of time.
Right here in the questions of your mind.
Right here in the uncertainty of the day’s unfolding.
Right here in the constant moving.
Right here is where I am.
May I then hold this close, hold the truth found in Your words, that right here is where you are as the day goes before me.
