Day 7: Power

There is something about this word that brings a lot of different images to mind. A crashing wave of the ocean. A roaring waterfall. A lion on the hunt. An authority figure. Gravity. The sun. The human body. Or even the electricity that courses through every device we own.

Yes there are many pictures we could place upon this word and yet somehow a lightbulb was the one that I landed on. You see with the invention of the lightbulb it changed a lot within society and create a wave of something new. One invention created a monumental wave of change. That’s pretty powerful if you ask me. And I’m sure if you sat down and thought about it you could come up with many many more inventions that have caused drastic shifts and changes within society and throughout the world.

So let’s take that idea then ask ourselves how do we use our own power? How have we as a nation, a people, a society used our power? Has it been for the benefit of others, or for our own gain?

In Romans Paul writes how we have been given a Spirit not of fear but if power and authority, one with a sound mind! This is no small matter rather it’s a huge change in the way we can and should live our lives! However this power given isn’t meant to be used in selfishness, no rather selflessness. It is used to combat the world of darkness around us, to walk in the Kingdom of light! And so again I ask how have we, how have you used your own power?

Tonight as you flip off the switch to your lights, as you plug in your devices to get charged, or as you turn on the hallway nightlight ask how can I use the power given to me by the Holy Spirit for good? How can I walk in a manor not of fear tomorrow but one in sonship?

We in the United States have lots of power to influence the world around us, and how can we influence those around us toward unity, toward kindness, toward understanding, toward the Father’s heart? Because “with great power comes great responsibility” and have we used ours responsibly? May we be people who produce an effect that will change the world through Christ and you have the capability to be those advocates of change through the Spirit residing within you!

Jesus thank you for the gift of your spirit that enables us to walk in power and authority. To be sons and daughters and to walk humbly with our God! We ask that you would show us what this means, to be people of influence for Your Kingdom. To be co-heirs with you and to bring a little touch and taste of heaven to this earth. May we be vessels, and lights that cannot be put out or shaken. To be a city on a hill for all to see for the glory and power of your name. We repent of the ways we have walked in our own power and again teach us lead us and guide us in the way of everlasting! Show us those that you want us to love each day from your heart and may that be the most powerful thing they and we will ever encounter. Amen
